THE ARCHITECTONIC
CANDLE HOLDER

Usually made of metal, the modern candle holders are available in myriad shapes and styles. From simple, minimalist ones to opulent, eclectic candelabra. Triglav, a steel candle holder from Zieta Studio, is a candelabrum with three arms of unusual shape.

Designed by Oskar Zięta, Triglav’s form refers to the realm of architecture. Its three arms of various heights are like three towers of a fantastic modern building – delicate with their verticality and slenderness, but stable and unyielding.

SLENDER AND SOARING

Triglav’s essence lies in juxtaposing the cool nature of polished steel with organic shapes of tree-like arms that “grow up” from the base becoming the soaring column-like twigs.

INSPIRED BY GOTHIC VAULTS

Despite the first impression the Triglav candelabrum makes on the viewer – of another bionic form by Zieta Collection – its form is rooted in the history of architecture.

The arch shape being central for the Triglav’s harmony and balance, it has been inspired by the Gothic ogival arch. Whereas, the latter is often derived from branches tied together from trees. This theory of the interconnection of architecture and nature finds its historical basis in such writings as Vitruvius’ De architectura or Tacitus’ De Germania.

The Triglav’s unobvious form is thus an allusion both to the world of nature and the rules of architectural construction.
